Is it possible with BV Commerce to control multiple websites from one db? I'm thinking more from an inventory management concern, if I have the same products on multiple sites.....

You could have more than one front end using the same database but all store settings including products, themes, etc. will be the same. If you have a theme with the same name on each store but different CSS content you could get different looks with the same back end.
