I tried sending out an email to all of our customers through a mailing list, and it timed out.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Christopher

BV4 does that too. I think its a .net thing. I limited my list in BV4 to about 200 or so and it worked just fine.

It is a .net thing, I've done it myself through BV and it timed out, then if you make the mistake of resending a bunch of times to get it to work, the first couple hundred people on the list are mad they got 5 copies...

try ConstantContact fore-mails...it's simple to use and runs off their servers, plus you won't get nearly as many spam reports back that way. you can try it for a month free I think before you even have to pay...

I would highly recommend not using your store application to send out email campaigns. The load on the server that is running your store and your email server, time-outs, possible unsubscribe issues and the fact that you risk damaging the reputation of your email server/domain isn't worth it.

I suggest finding a service that is constantly on top of keeping their email servers whitelisted and offers really nice email features, like campaignmonitor.com.

Still waiting on some nice integration into BVC5 with the Campaign Monitor API, Developers. ;)

Yes, please. :)

I got my feet wet with the CM API a few months ago, just building a simple subscribe form on a .Net 2.0 site. It's pretty cool. I'm sure there are possibilities for creating lists based on customer history in BVC5, subscribe form modules, adding to an 'all users' list whenever a user creates a new account (so you can send them a welcome note from Campaign Monitor and list them on any site-wide notices), etc. Would be a powerful tool.
