Those are all nice looking sites.
We have taken a different approach and now I'm beginning to think it may have been an incorrect approach. We have been live for about a month.
Our marketing approach has been to set our site up as an infomercial. Using the content to build creditability for a soft sell approach for our products. We put a fair amount of content on the home page with key words in the articles for search engine optimization. I'm wondering if this approach may be obsolete. The words "A picture is worth a thousand words." keeps running through my mind.
I'm also getting the impression, modern search engines are looking for page titles that contain the key words on that page. In other words, the content on the home page has diminished in importance relative to the content on the other pages in the site. Is this true?
Although our product is an intangible, we do have a large collection of pictures showing numerous skating moves. We have film clips as well, but I'm not real excited about watching the same clip load (or any clips load) on the home page.
So what do you think? Should we increase the picture to text ratio on our home page and doll up the header and page in general? How about on our Skating Tips pages? More Pictures?
