I've created a new test user and give him some right to perform admin operation on orders, products, catalog etc, but I don't want to get him access on the content area, so I leaved the Content Admin in the box Not member of. Despite this the user is able to see the content tab and modify settings.

What groups do you have this user assigned to? |

I also add that is impossible to remove the right from the left panel and let them back to the right panel "Not member of". Sipmy click on the arrow to move the item, refresh the page and doesn't move the element.

content admin, wholesale customers, report admin, product admin, new administrator.
The problem could be the new administrator, but without that grants, this user wasn't able to log in the admin panel at all.

The new administrator is the issue, it gives all rights. You need to go into the group editor and create a new group called something like "admin users" and give it the right to login to the admin. This way you can assign it to users that you want to be able to get into the admin. |

Justin,
The tools are there but there is no way to intuitively figure this solution out, esp for first time store owners. You will have more questions like this.
Perhaps a few typical scenarios such as this one could be presented with step-by-step solutions. These should be added to the manual.
All access user (the boss)
Product update user (stock mgr, shipping clerk)
"People" only user (customer service)
Order management user (bookeeping)
All access to content user (sales, marketing)
etc.... |

Good idea, we will look at getting it into the manual. Thank you! |

Ok thanks for clarification. By the way there is bug always. Trying to remove the new administrator group to an user where role has been assigned is impossible. In a first moment I thought that since it was the only role available, it shouldn't be possible, but also assignment something else doesn't let me remove that role from the list.
Am I missing something?

What errors are you receiving? We have not had any issues with this and I don't believe anyone has reported this issue to us. If you have the exact text of any errors you are receiving that would be helpful for us to try and reproduce this error. |

Andrea, I can repro what you are saying with not beeing able to remove a role from a user. I deleted the roles from the DB manually. Corneliu. |

Exactly what I did ... no errors. Pages is refreshed and the role is there always. Manual db delete operation is required.
