Okay -- I'm real close to pulling the trigger on BV5, though I was going to wait for SP3 -- at least SP2 -- but I need to start working on something new for our store, but I have a question about set up.
From what I can tell from reading the forums, I could set up BV5 on my local machine using SQL Server Express for initial testing. The question is if I get things set up using Express, can the database info easily be transferred to a full SQL2005 database on a remote server later?
Thanks

Yes, you can use SQL Server Express for testing, etc... Using Management Studio, you can easily create a backup to send up to your hosting company. |

Joe, no worries here. If you wanted to work on the site locally for a while go for it. When you are ready to go live Jess can easily put your Express database on the production MSSQL server. Another option to also consider is purchasing the developer version of MSSQL 2005 from Amazon so you will have a complete toolset. If you do decide to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services version and you will be working with a good but scaled down version of Management Studio. Using this version of Express will be fine for what you want to do. Good luck and hope you have a good time with it all. |

Thanks for the responses -- so Kim -- are you saying that I would be okay with just transferring the SQL Express database to AI's servers when I'm ready to go live -- no need for a full blown SQL database?

Yes, you are fine working with Express. When it is time to go live you can do one of two things. 1. Send Jess a zipped copy of a backup. 2. Detach the database, zip and send to jess and then attach again for dev work. Cool eh. |
