Having just jumped into the BV5 pool I have begun exploring the features and found the customizable Product Types a GREAT feature -- sort of like Product Templates with a Boost!
My question is: Are these fields searchable? In other words, if I use a certain term in one of these fields, can a customer search for that term, or can I create a custom search string to determine those products?

I tested for this a while ago and tried again last weekend, I've found no way to get "search" to find a term in the 'product type' name, nor find a term used in "type properties". I was planning on putting a lot of 'product type-common' info in these fields. For now, it's still going to have to be the long description route for search-ablility....
It'd be great to be able to search for all books by publisher's name. Putting the publisher's name in the 'type properties' fields isn't the way to do it though.
Perhaps for SP3???

Thanks Mitch. Yes, I would vote to make those field searchable as well. It would increase their usefulness tenfold. But it's great that they are even there -- it really raises the potential for what you can do for products! |

More than any other reason for loving this feature is that it makes similar products look similar to the shopper without much effort. Products created months apart, with data entered by numerous people will have the same look and feel with zero additional HTML, formatting, etc., input. This goes a long way towards making the shopper feel comfortable - the ultimate goal. |
