We have a client that wants to show pdf's to clients. We used the File Upload capability to upload several pdf's. But, for some reason, each time we try to download the pdf to view, it brings up the following error message:

There was an error <b>opening this document. there was a problem reading this document (14)</b>

We can open up the files locally on his machine and mine when saved, just can't view. Do you know if there is an issue with saving it, etc?

Thanks again!

It could be an issue with mime types preventing it from opening in the browser. I will look into it.

I checked the application and we are passing a mime type of "application/pdf" for pdf files, which should be correct. Where in the application are you trying to download the file from? I want to make sure that we aren't missing somewhere that we are supposed to be applying this mime type.

Sure.

The address for now is http://208.74.83.11

I've made it so the client can see their downloadable files with their product, so i've added the component to the product detail page. To see an example of what's happening, please go to the following link: http://208.74.83.11/Prod.../joetest5__joetest5.aspx

On this page, you will see the download button under the product description. It should look familiar, it was essentially a copy from the admin.

If you would like to see it in the admin backend, please feel free to send me an email so I can respond with the login information ([email protected]) Thanks again for all of your help.

Would it be possible for you to post the code that you are using to implement this? Also, is it working on the admin side, or is it not working anywhere?

It's not working on the admin side either. So, it should be the same code as everyone else. Hope that helps. Does it work on your end in the admin side?

Any updates on this? Just as testing, I was able to download the file through ftp and load it up properly with Adobe Reader. So, it definitely has something to do with the way it is displayed. I checked into the MIME types, but the code looks correct. The only thing I can think of is to try and rewrite this for pdf files.

Sorry, I was out sick yesterday. I'm gonna send you an e-mail now so that I can get access to the back-end.

I found the issue. We are going to include a new function in the ViewUtilities that is called DownloadFile. I am going to send you the code for this function in an e-mail.
