As I build my BV5 store, a couple of thoughts come to mind based on nagging issues in my current cart and wonder how these issues are addressed in BV5:
1. The issue of packaging/box material weight. In other words when I set the weight of an item, in my current cart I have to add a small amount (such as 0.1 ounce) to account for packaging materials. This becomes an issue when a customer orders a lot of items, it inflates the weight of the package. If I don't add anything then many packages are undercalculated and not only is that an issue with cost, but adjusting the weight when the shipment gets pulled into Shipper. So the question is: Is there something in BV5 that allows one to set a "shipment base weight."??
2. I have the issue with shipping with FedEx in my current cart. I'm not sure how the shipment volume calculations are done, but FedEx does not like fractions in dimensions. So if I have an item that is 1/8" thick and a customer adds one or more to the cart (as long as the dimensions don't add up to a round number), it throws an error and will not show FedEx shipping options. So all my items have to be rounded to the next whole number in all three dimensions (H, W, L), which again throws off some packages as it overcalculates the volume of the shipment. I'm wondering if anyone with BV5 (or BV2004 for that matter) has seen this issue or can comment on it.

Joe, I'm honestly not sure.... I would, however, glance at Andy Millers superb solution: http://structured-solutions.net/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PROVSTE-5 |

Thank you Matt.
Joe,
It looks like SP2 will set the minimum package dimension to 1 (inch?). I think that will solve your second issue.
I am working on an update to the Shipping Rate Provider Suite for BVC5 SP2 that will allow you to assign packaging weight. You will also be able to split the order into boxes with specific dimensions and tare weight. Those new features should solve both issues. |

Thanks for the responses guys -- I was hoping somone that is using FedEx could comment on whether they are using products that have fractional dimensions to see if that issue was a FedEx issue or a SF issue. |
