I am selling CDs and books by various authors and artists, but a few of them would like to have mini-stores within the site featuring only their products with a custom theme (giving the appearance that the site only features their products, but in actuality it would be part of the greater store). How would this be accomplished?

You could create categories for each author/artist and make a look for each one, but the cart, searching etc. would be common. If these few really want to be isolated, they need stores of their own.
And tell them to not sell their stuff through Amazon, Border's or get listed in Google because they would be with all the competition... |
