We configured one of 3 shopping carts and copied the database to the other two carts. It all seems to work well except that the order numbers cannot be changed. When a new order number is entered, it appears to change but as soon as an order is placed it reverts back to the old numbers. This has been tried on different remote computers using various logins, always with the same result.

Not sure if this may help, but did you alter the Last Order Number, in the admin area of the web site? This setting is in the Options area, under the order selection.

I found the cause. You cannot lower the starting number. We wanted to make the Order Numbers for our 3 sites start with 2xxxxx, 4xxxxx, and 6xxxxx. We used the site that begins with 4xxxxx as the template for the other two sites. So when we tried to reduce the number from 4xxxxx to 2xxxxx (after copying the database and files), it would not work. So we changed our scheme to 4xxxxx, 6xxxxx, 8xxxxx and that worked.

But what happens after 200,000 orders at any particular store? |
