I recently development a custom payment gateway. The gateway supports authorization at checkout and fund capture later. I implemented the gateway provider properly. It worked fine.

However I tried to dig deeper by debugging the code. I found something interesting. Say if I enable the authorization first and fund capture later feature. The authorization part went through OK as expected. However when I tried to charge (or collect) the fund from the administration section, I realized at the back end it actually attempted to charge the card directly using the normal charge routine instead of the capture routine. From the functionality wise, it will not make much difference as the merchant will get the money.

I am wondering whether it is the intended design or bug. If it is the intended design why we bother to implement the Capture functionality for the credit card gateway.

Anyone experienced the same thing? I hope some experts can shed lights on this.
