What do you mean when you ask for a list of changes?

Each time a service pack is released, there is a call for a list of changes. A straight list of change items turns out to be useful (people can say #123 is working or not), but it does not seem to be practical. Is this what you mean? http://www.userscape.com/helpdesk/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=155 |

I'm most concerned that a file I've modified to work well (or to fix something that's broken in SP2), OR a file that's been changed in order to work with another file that's been changed (ie: checkout.aspx and checkout.vb) won't work if SP3 re-loads these files and un-fixes my fixes.
I looked at SP1, bailed out and waited for a fresh install on SP2. SP2 in it's released form was unusable. 200+ hours later, I'm facing the daunting prospect of testing and stomping out fires - again. It was months before I realized that 2 items in the cart with the same SKU but different prices via modifiers showed the same price in the cart. SP2 was not ready for release. BVC may be good, but pre-release testing isn't their strong point and I'm justifiably nervous.
The list of hotfixes (I haven't applied them all) is long and my notes on dozens of little fixes (most from BVC, many from the forum) is longer.
Asking for a list of changes/fixes/altered files can go a long way towards finding the right place to look when at 1:00am on SP3 upgrade day my site throws a runtime error. "Search" and the plug-ins tab are already thread topics. I see hotfixes in our future only a week into SP3. I'll wait.
SF upgrades still bring pain. Keeping up with BV5's problems hasn't gone a whole lot better - but I'm smarter and more capable that I used to be, or thought I should need to be. Yes, the change catalog shown at userscape is what I mean.

A simple changelog works for me in most cases, but I have to say I'd much prefer the example you posted, Andy. :) |

Mitch, while I agree with your and Andy's idea (and your nervousness about installing SP3) I wouldn't expect to see anything like that coming from BV. They have enough to do just getting the bugs patched. What I do is to keep my own 'change log' is rename the original file and upload my changed file so I have a quick visual way of seeing what files I have altered. Then you can do a file to file comparison of the Original BV file against the New BV file and see if there are any differences. If not your changed file should (hopefully) continue to be OK.
