We went live with our BV5 store on Nov. 10 and chose to allow customers to pay by PayPal or credit card. The mistake we made when we opened for business was having Options/Payment/PayPal Express/Capture Mode set to "Authorize at Checkout, Capture Funds Later". This would have been okay if we used a merchant account to process payments, but since we process payments manually the result is that our first 22 PayPal transactions show up as "Pending" with no way of capturing the funds through PayPal. On Dec. 3 we changed the setting to "Charge Full Amount at Checkout" and since then all PayPal payments have been nicely captured at checkout. My issue now, on Dec. 18, is that I still have 22 transactions showing as "Pending" with no way of capturing the funds through PayPal. I was told by PayPal phone support on numerous occasions that "our tech engineers will look into this for you" but never heard back. Well today I tried the PayPal developer forum and did receive a helpful response which follows: If anyone has a user interface set up all they would need would be your API credentials (api email, password and signature) and the transaction id to capture the funds. There isn't much else anyone would need. If you have a developer who is willing to do this for you.<FONT color=#ff0000> So my question here is to see if anyone can help us capture these pending funds using this method. We are obviously willing to hire someone or offer free candy, nuts and coffee from our site: www.georgehowe.com. Thank you, Joe

As a follow-up, the solution here is just as the PayPal developer indicated. In fact, it was the PP developer who captured some of our pending funds. Others had reached "expired" status and were not recoverable. These customers had to be invoiced separately through PP. Not ideal, but by throwing in a discount code for their next order, most paid right away.

Matt, I would advise you to state your issue on the PayPal Developer forum and make a plea for someone to capture these pending funds through a user interface (that is already built). You need to capture them within 30 days of the transaction date, otherwise their status will change to "Expired" and not be recoverable. I waited too long and was only able to capture two of 22 pending transactions. Live and learn. Here's the link to the forum: http://www.paypaldeveloper.com/pdn/forumsJoe www.georgehowe.com
