Right now my store is running fine with BV5 SP2. I have yet to have any of the bugs crop up for my customers. Can anyone who has actually installed SP3.1 comment on whether you would upgrade or stay where you are? I usually rush to upgrades thinking that it will make my life easier but the old adage 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies as well.

I did primarily for the grid for one customer. |

I mainly did the upgrade because of Price Groups -- if you use them, then you might want to upgrade - they don't work unless a customer signs BEFORE shopping, which most don't do. |

If you are using volume discounts, you HAVE to apply 3.1. Without 3.1, the order subtotal and grand total are calculated based on the regular price, instead of the volume discounts. This has the effect of customers seeing your shopping cart calculate 1 + 1 = 3 and they dump the cart and go elsewhere since if you can't correctly do simple price calculations, how can they possibly trust you to handle their credit cards properly. We've had dozens of people dump their shopping cart before checking out because of this problem. We just found it and fixed that particular problem this morning as part of tracking down of "magically changing prices" on the admin side.
It was something that I never thought to test, because I assumed that BVC would be able to correctly calculate a subtotal and grand total which are two of the most fundamental things for a shopping cart. So, this upgrade from BVC 2004 to BVC5 is looking pretty stupid on our part. I could have spent the time re-writing the USPS shipping interface without impact to our business instead of having customers now think that we can't do simple math and potentially leaving our store forever.

Most of the problems with SP3 and SP3.1 don't look like they're going away for a while, so why do it?
I'm considering the upgrade for only one big fix: the "Same SKU - altered price at checkout" bug. All of my products have modifiers, so a $100.00 option on a product is wiped out at checkout if two identical but differently priced SKUs are placed in the cart. This doesn't happen all that much and there are a few products I'm changing to remove this problem, but still - math just shouldn't suck on a cart in 2007.
Maybe I'll wait for the new list of hotfixes or 3.2 and see how it looks... or BVC6. |

I think 3.1 looks good - 3.0 caused the volume pricing issue, 3.1 fixed it. The only problem I'm seeing with 3.1 is the cart has slowed down with a large number of items. |

Has 3.1 corrected the PayPal issue of not collecting the phone number. Seems like I saw a post where there were still issues with this. I've installed on a local box but haven't had time to test it yet. Also we were having troubles with sales tax being charged on free shipping even tho there was no shipping it still got charged. Anyone notice if these items have been corrected. Seems like there are still some fixes to be made. Richard www.somethingmorestore.com

I'm not sure about PayPal but it has not fixed the issue totally of requirng a phone number at all -- I have several orders where the customer only enters three digits (area code or bogus number) -- then I get an error in FedEx Shipmanager saying the phone number is not correct, so I have to delete the number there. |

Mhotek, thanks I didn't realize that Volume discounts was broken on everything pre-SP3.1 so I'll have to do the upgrade and just hope for the best.

Rick,
Volume discounts were fine on SP2 -- SP3.0 broke them -- so if you haven't moved to SP3, then you are okay there. |

Thanks Joe, for now I think I'll stick with SP2. Better to go with the headaches I know about that those I don't. BTW, check out my post - GOTCHA - Sale Discounts don't get along with Volume Discounts
