Hi,
Has anyone tried to change it's BVC to be full XHTML compliant, use DIVs everywhere and not tables and use CSS for all styling?

Regards,

Corneliu.

I've made some progress, though tables are still alright for the data that makes more sense in a tabular format, like a list of orders or the shopping cart. You wouldn't want to use DIVs everywhere because there are so many other tags that make more sense for certain things, depending on the situation, but I know what you're saying. We don't need tables for product displays, options, forms, etc., and .Net gets in the way too much of the time.

CSS is already used for the majority of presentation except for certain places where .Net defaults are in place and sucking up the joint, or the developers got lazy. OK, a lot, actually.

I've come pretty close with www.passengersonly.com so far, without spending a crazy amount of time on making everything 100% semantic, but focusing the time I have on flexibility instead. The categories, for examples, are unordered lists instead of tables, and I've fixed most of the validation issues. Still requires a lot of work if I want get OCD about it, though, and on top of that a lot of the changes that would still need to be made are in the code-behind and core, which isn't my area of expertise (if I had one).

Thanks Cliff,
I'm also starting in the quest of making my site XHTML1.1&CSS compliant. Not sure how far I'll get :)
I'm 2h into the game and still stuck at the homepage.
I've installed the CSSFriendly Adapters and started to write new adapters for most of the controls that I still want to use or change the code.
My problem is I don't know CSS enough to be able to write nice CSS but I'll manage :)
Regards,
Corneliu.

I agree, nicely done. I wonder though... Is there a way to keep the black border from flickering as you mouse over the edge of the 200x200 product img (IE6)? Also, in IE6 I'm getting the 'img control bar' (arrow). It's very distracting.

I doubt ANYONE really uses this bar, and you'd want people to use the store's email controls first.

Cliff, check out the Trunkies. Clicking into either of them crashed IE6.

Thanks, Corneliu. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to go with XHTML 1.1. XHTML 1.0 Strict is a good goal.

Mitch, Regarding the flickering, it's a bug in IE6 that I wasn't able to completely get around initially. I'm revisiting it during the SP3.2 upgrade, currently, and will also be adding a meta tag to get rid of the image toolbar.

I've never seen that error before, thanks, I'll look into it.

Mitch, thanks for the heads up on this. Looks like the error is the result of a flash video that was added to the long description.
