how to create a browse by manufacturer function

When I view a product in the store it does not state the maufacturer name, how do I make a browse by manufacturer function if I can only view it in admin?

What I did was to create a new link that pulls up all products by a particular manufacturer -- I went away from the built-in navigation and used an outside product to create my menus. |
