When I click the Checkout button after adding some items to my cart, I'm redirected to the store home page. The cart is not changed, nor is the order processed.

I'm able to create an order using the "New Order" module of the admin section without a problem.

I don't know if the problem is with my products or if there's some setting somewhere that I missed. Any thoughts?

Check Options->Security in the admin to make sure your site standard and secure URL are configured correctly. Also, are you trying this with PayPal or Google checkout?

I'm running BVC on my development machine right now. No SSL certificate. The checkbox for "Use SSL" is unchecked. The URLs are correct. Should I look into moving the installation to a proper web server with SSL?

I'm using whatever the default gateway is. I think it's the manual transaction, but I'm not sure. I didn't do any setup for PayPal or Google Checkout, so I don't think I'm using those.

Could be a session resetting. Check your windows application event log to see if application pool is recycling often.
