question about changing order number to a prior number (lower #) in admin--->orders

I had originally set my starting order number at 8500000 (to pick up when I convert from my BV2004 store to BVC5) and have processed some test orders. I now want to lower the number to say 1500....but it keeps reverting back to the old number. It is possible to go backwards like this or does the db prevent in since the new # is lower than previous numbers?

Just change the setting in Options->Orders in the admin and save changes. That should do it. If you still have problems change something in the web.config file to recycle the whole app.
