Perhaps this is a condition of my lack of experience with this product, or perhaps it is not, however here is our issue.
We are attempting to add "weights" to the item product types for the purpose of customizing shipping. In the product batch edit section this would be very easy, however when we add "1.000" in the batch edit to the product type and select either "Add to" or "Set to" then preview - it gives us the save changes page. In the DB preview for the changes there is no adjustment to the "Weight" field, and no changes are made to the DB when we save.
However, completely to the contrary of common sense, if we "add to" when there is already a value present in the "weight" field (1.00 or greater) then the batch edit ad's the new value to the existing value and properly saves it. However, any weight fields with "0.000" present are not affected by either method of Batch Editing.
Now since no one else has any posts about this I have to assume I am an idiot, or we have an error in our system.
If someone can please point out options, I have utilized all the possible combinations in the batch edit with no success.
Thank you for your help -
We have 8000 products, so manually editing is out of the question. Any assistance would a great help.

Client of mine has a catalog that is hovering around your size. This may be a workaround solution for you? We installed Andy Miller's (Structure Solutions) Shipping Rate Rule Provider: http://structured-solutions.net/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=RULEPROV-BV5We're using a multiplier for shipping rates, anything less than 1 lb. gets X added to the shipping cost. This catches all products under 1 lb. |

Matt - is there a reason why the batch edit will not work in limited numbers, like 400-500 at a time?
Thanks

I've never messed with the batch edit nor do I ever see myself using it as I'm not a fan of Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO). I tend to stray from utilities like this because it can create 8,000 errors. Rather, I tap www.resposio.com (client's host) for situation's like this to do direct SQL script updates (or using the SQL F&R Utility from BV) as well as creating an immediate DB backup right before doing it. If there is a problem, there is an immediate restore of the database and it's run again with a fix, or an alternative solution is done. In this case, we wanted to preserve the weights of the products as provided by suppliers and vendors due to the fact that orders are also conducted offline, over the phone, via purchase order, distributed from alternative locations, etc. where the orders are for pallet's rather than a 4 lb. package and exact numbers are needed for orders of this size. We chose the route of using Andy Miller's Rule Provider for the online orders because it's all done in one spot without having to modify any individual product(s). |
