Price Group with Access to only certain items

Greetings: I am trying to get some suggestions on how to address implement a BV solution to a situation where we have a clients that are part of a Club and we would like to give them a special price for certain products. Some of these products are subject to what is referred to as Minimum Retail Price (MRP) policy by the manufacturer. MRP mandates that dealers to not sell to endusers below a certain price. The only exception to these are B2B sales.
In this situation, we will be selling to a Club (business) but they want their members to buy direct at the negotiated price which is below the MRP. If we create a price group, say "cost plus 3%", the members of that price group will have that price for all items in the catalog which we do not want. If we give them a promotional code, that information may be published in forums and non-members will be able to get the product below MRP price which technically will be a violation of the Manufacturer policy.
Ideally, the solution will be to create a price group and only assign certain products discounted for that price group. So as members of the club creates an account, we can assign them to that price group.
Since I do not think this is supportd in BV, can any of you suggest a solution?
Thanks
Nolax

I think going the custom development route is your only option. |

Hello Aaron:
Thanks for reply. I do not mind paying a fair price on custom code but my concern is future upgrades of the BV core software. I am not sure if the custom code can be written in such a way that it can be isolated from SP patches and hotfixes. I am not concern that we lose the custom code going into major upgrades such as version 6 since that is a totally new ball of wax. ANy thoughts?

Colin,
Almost every site we built requires customizations to the core software. We apply every BV service pack to our customers' unique code base. Don't let this stop you from making the changes you need to have a successful store. Think of the BV platform as a good starting point and build from it. I find their recent renaming of the product to "BV Commerce Toolkit" to be very appropriate. Don't wait for BV to provide every feature you want, because it's not going to happen. Every merchant has unique requirements and a one-size-fits-all approach never works. |
