Breadcrumb is displaying ALL possible back-paths even when "Always Show All" is unchecked

Subject basically says it all
I have:
Always Show All Categories On Product Pages: (In Breadcrumb Trail) UNCHECKED
Yet I get a long list of all possible back/up paths on a product page for a product that is in multiple categories.
V 5.4R5 unmodified TekGearrerdux is the theme I'm testing with.

I think I remember Marcus explaining that if the product page is accessed from a place other than a category (like a side column or direct address) all possible breadcrumbs are displayed. Unchecking the box causes only the category you came from to be displayed despite the product being in multiple categories, but has no effect on off-category links to the product page. |

Mitch is correct in his answer.
You can manually add a parameter to the breadcrumb control to limit the number of results too.
