cross sell items not being added to cart when selectde from the cart.apsx page

I have crosssell items that appear on the product page with the product they are associated with and can be added from there. They also work when using the intermediate page between the product page and cart page after an item is added to the cart. They arent working however when displayed at the bottom of the cart page.
Has anyone seen this? Maybe it was in a Hotfix, but I could'nt find it. I am running 5.3.2
