I'm trying to add a product that ships in two packages and I can't figure out how to configure it. I thought an Upsell of the second package (as an unlisted product) would work, but that only replaces the first product. I could do a "Buy X, Get Y free" offer, I guess, but perhaps there is an easier way that I am not thinking of. |

Yes -- I never thought of that -- I suppose I create a Product Type that breaks the item in two boxes! I'll give that some thought -- Thanks Matt! |

I don't think that will work. If you only have 1 physical thing in the cart (i.e. 1 widget), there is no way to split that one thing between 2 BV packages.
Somehow you will need to add both parts to the cart. |

Shipping Rate Rule Providers do work well to break up orders into several packages...but they can't make an empty package (or duplicate an item). |

Obviously....you're right... :)
I've been clicking around a bit and I'm not seeing a way around it.
Joe, the only other thing I can think of is configuring the dimensions of the main product to be the full shipment size (2 boxes / cubic size)? |

Matt - that would work with UPS but not FedEx -- the way BV5 calculates the dimensions creates a big problem for me with FedEx -- BV adds all the "lengths" of all the products into one long package (i.e., 400 1" beads gets translated into a 400x1x1 package size) -- BV won't break it into more than one box -- it just makes FedEx throw a timeout error because it can't calculate a box that 400 inches long! I was wondering if the "Free Promo Item" might work -- buy the first part of the product and BV throws in teh second one free -- as long as it sees that it is also a "Ship Separately" product, then it might work. |
