sp7 category menu sometimes not working for me....

While testing sp7 I noticed that the category menu shows the 'invalid category id' message without showing any categories.
This happens on the homepage when the category menu is configured for "children peers, and parents" or "show all categories for current parent".

I noticed this problem with products that have a default choice. Removing the default fixed the problem. There's also a problem with Inventory, Allow Orders when a default choice is set - if the default choice has 0 inventory, selecting another choice does not remove the backorder label.
I reported both bugs in the bug tracker.

When there is no logical current parent, the control produces the error message, "Invalid Category Id. Contact Administrator". This might be a bug...
I don't think the two posts above are related, as a product with a default choice would have nothing to do with the category structure. |

Does anyone have a fix for this? Before 5.7.1, the menu would simply display the root categories if there wasn't a logical current parent. Now this error displays instead. I've tried to look through the code for the category menu content block and it seems like they set the category menu mode to "0" which is "Load Roots" in the case where there isn't a current logical parent and the last category id (session variable) is empty. Anyone have a fix or suggestions of other things to try?

bump. I have a store with no choices whatsoever. I agree with jbeim, it should act as before by defaulting to roots. It doesn't do that. Help. |

I replicated this error today on my site... Here is what I did @ http://www.medsupplier.com/burdick-atria-3100-interpretive-ekg.aspxClick on "A31-1EI01 - Interpretive" option Click Add To Cart button Click Cart / Checkout in top menu Click on Burdick Atria 3100 Interpretive EKG A31-1EI01 - Interpretive in the shopping cart Menu shows "Invalid Category Id. Contact Administrator" and the choice "A31-1EI01 - Interpretive" is selected.

Paul,
We hired a developer to fix the bug in 5.7.3's Category Menu control. But, the fix we received doesn't work on the homepage. If we get a solution, we'll post it.

This doesn't fix anything. I just came across this invalid ID while working on an upgrade.
Note: I manually rewrite URLs (categories & products)
I was in a subcategory on the front end. I modified the URL of it's parent category. On the front end side, i clicked the parent bread crumb trail link without refreshing, so it was pointing me to the old URL.
Invalid ID, contact adminstrator message.
Logically, it's a valid error message since the URL doesn't exist anymore so the site has no idea what to look for, however I should've been redirected to the 404 page.
I can confirm that the web.config is set to redirect 404's to a formatted error page.
********* UPDATED *************
It did redirect me to the 404 page! The left menu displayed the invalid error message.
I happened to do this again and paid a little more attention this time...lol... |

I haven't paid for it yet, but I expect to receive an invoice from them at the end of the month. He quoted up to 3 hours, I believe.

Gotcha, you beat me to a post. I wanted linette to know that I absolutely wasn't dropping a "fly by night" accusation.
just wanted to make sure everything was good with the sharing.
Thanks for the generous code help linette :) |
