Hi there BV experts, does BV support mailing list unsubscribes for recipients without a shopping cart account? I didn't find anything, just wanted to double check.
It seems that for email campaigns it's probably not a good idea to use BV to manage it for this reason, but instead just whatever 3rd party campaign manager so that unsub requests can be automated, etc...is that what most of you folks do?
Thanks |

Thanks Matt, do you manually copy over email addresses from your shopping cart to Campaign Monitor before each email campaign? A lot of email campaign have APIs, i.e. http://www.campaignmonitor.com/api/. It would be sweet if BV had an extensible provider mechanism that be used to hook into 3rd party APIs and just keep lists automatically up to date behind the scenes. |

Yeah, it would be nice if there was a provider model for that. We create custom integrations for each client and never use BV's mailing list functionality. Everybody seems to use a different systems (Constant Contact, iContact, Exact Target, Campaign Monitor, etc, etc). |

Currently update at time of mailings. Have multiple list topics per website.
Hypothetical, if paying per list size, let's say you miss a mailing or two and have the lists automatically updating via any api. The list happens to bump you to a higher pricing tier... oops... somebody won on that deal.
I have a note on the customization task sheet to work an auto-update integration into the dashboard, not an auto-update though. submit button. |

Matt,
Are you automatically subscribing all user accounts or are you using the BV mailing list as a way to capture addresses (and then exporting from there)? |

Agreed, it wouldn't be too tough to do either probably. It could be worth covering all bases too such as when users logged into the BV shopping cart account to see all mailing lists that they were subscribed to. Showing them the date that they opted out of a list rather than just permanently deleting it would probably give shoppers a better sense of comfort that "someone is listening to them" so to speak |

Aaron,
1. Updated the site to include a subscribe to mailing list checkbox during the account creation process (cannot believe the amount of signups! and we're honestly not sneaking it in there. it's extremely visible)
2. Standard mailing list subscription box in column
3. "My Account" section updates to present additional list topics for subscription to customers (cannot believe the amount of signups to additional lists!)
4. Promote signing up via email receipts
5. Promote signing up on packing slips
6. Additional social outlets highlight as well, everybody has their vice :)
Exporting addresses from BV for the individual lists.
Having the sites communicate directly with CM (API available) is the most efficient in the grand scheme, but to be honest, it's a 30 second task each time. |

Having the sites communicate directly with CM (API available) is the most efficient in the grand scheme, but to be honest, it's a 30 second task each time. A while back we had constant contact integrated with our BV site. The flow of the site was: Website > BV mailing list content block > Added to BV mailing list > Added to Constant Contact. The BV mailing list content block allowed us to choose from a drop down list what mailing list it would subscribe the customer to. As long as our mailing list name was the same name in CC, it would add the customer to the CC mailing list after a few mins. Worked great until a while ago. The API must have changed. We had the mailing list mod at checkout as well with the constant contact integration. After it stopped working, Matt suggested the same route above (good talk Matt). With a few changes at with the checkout mod, we are doing the same process as what Matt suggested. Works great.

I remember at the end of 2008 Constant Contact made a change to their signup form that broke the integration on all of our client sites that use it. They gave us no notice that they were making changes. We had to build an API integration (at our cost, of course) and roll it out to our clients. It took a fair bit of development time which caused our customers to miss out on countless signups. Fun times! |

Since the subject of email campaign vendors came up, has anyone had experience with mailchimp? Their rates seem quite competitive (free) for very small businesses, http://www.mailchimp.com/pricing/. |

I have been using mailchimp.com for years. The service is awesome -- They are always making improvements. This is worth checking out! My two cents.
