Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have had numerous orders which customers enter their zip/postal code wrong and the order is allowed to go through. This becomes a real pain because our checkout is configured to authorize the card for the order amount. If the shipping charge isn't added to the order we have go into our gateway and cancel the order, add the shipping then reauthorize the card.
I was wondering if there was something I could do in the workflows which would not allow the order to go through if the shipping charge(s) could not be calculated.

I'm sure you can do something. Without looking through code I can't tell you where the best place to do that something would be, but I'm nearly certain it will require custom development. |

It sounds like the simplest solution would be to add a validation control on the checkout page on the zip code field to ensure it is in the proper format. RegularExpressionValidator is probably the best choice.
This will ensure that an order cannot be submitted without a proper zip code, which in turn should fix your calculation issues. However, there may be other things broken in the calculation that may require more analysis. |

Regular expression validation of zip codes is already included in 5.7. Options->Countries->Zip Code Validation Expression.
