I'd like to see BV use the ASP.NET 2.0 Membership and Profile model. Tonnes less code for you guys to maintain and lots more integration options.

The asp.net membership and profile model is very limited and we opted early on not to go with it. I've also been working with Microsoft technology long enough to realize that some things are short term technologies and others are long term. The .net framework is a long term play for Microsoft. The membership provider model may be long term but to me seems like something that could easily be phased out like many other past MS tools.

Marcus, what about using a customer MembershipProvider/Personalization Model with the BVC? I wrote a customer MembershipProvider (so easy even I could do it) for my regular site. Having a custom MembershipProvider would make it easier for people to customize the user features.

A replaceable membership module is something we're considering.
