Related to prohibited sale of alcohol & related items to specific states. We have some auto lubricants that cannot be shipped to CA.
Would be cool if we had a "Shipping Restrictions" feature. Wouldn't want to see this at the product admin level, rather a sub of Shipping that we can assign individual SKUs to a restricted state.
How this would fit into the ordering process... no idea...LOL...
Keep the line item in the order however apply a customizable "Shipping Restricted" label to the item, remove price from order total. I suggest this as a restricted item may be included in a multi-product order where these other items are not restricted.
If the only item(s) in the order are restricted, simply disable any ordering ability.
I've heard of customers ordering restricted items and shipping them to their "friends" though... LOL... |

I know of people getting around zip-code based restrictions by entering a different state's zip. As there aren't many stores that match state and zip on the order page (BVC doesn't), it goes through and gets corrected by the admin later, and out it goes. Often the shipping dept doesn't know or doesn't care. |

Which is why I mentioned "assign individual SKUs to a restricted state."
To hopefully combat this. Penalties from some suppliers are pretty severe. Sometimes to the tune of "No-Ship" for 30-60-90 days. |

Zip codes can cross state lines in some circumstances. There is not 100% 1 to 1 relationship. I could see a system that matched the only possible states to a zip code.

Several of our customers would benefit from this feature as well. |

How about displaying the restricted items in a separate "shipment" on screen and asking the customer to enter the destination address for those items in addition to the normal item shipping address. The customer would see two entry fields for shipping address. The first one would allow all valid shipping addresses and would copy to the second one. But, the second one would have Country/State/PostalCode restricted to the allowed destinations.

A sale is a sale, but in a way it's like we're encouraging the workaround. "Sorry we can't ship this item to you but ship it to someone close to you and then pick it up from them or have them send it to you". Teeters on the ethical fencetop for me.
What you're proposing is really an expansion on the ship to multiple addresses feature. I'll ask a few clients what they think. |

Was anything to accomplish this 6 years old request ever implemented? For example, most products in a store can be shipped internationally, but some can be shipped to USA and Canada only.

We are also running in to the same situation. Some of our products are restricted by quantity in different states. For instance, you only can sell a box of 30 syringes in California unless you have a medical license. The license portion makes it a more complex, but still along the same line.

For example, most products in a store can be shipped internationally, but some can be shipped to USA and Canada only. This should be pretty easy to do via the Shipping Rate Rule Providers. You will need to create Wrapper methods for each of your international methods and set them to not display. Then create a corresponding Order Rules method for each Wrapper method. In the Order Rules method you can define your logic (e.g. if shipping country isn't US or Canada AND the product cannot be shipped there, hide this method; otherwise display rates from the corresponding Wrapped method). To designate your shipping restrictions for a product you should use a Type Property, and this is the value that you'll check in the Order Rules method logic. |
