I wanted to share 2 "mods" Aaron from Develisys has worked on for us. A while back we teamed up with Aaron and got his faceted search up and running. Since then we've had some various work done on our site, included a Frequently Bought Together module and BV2004 Style Accessories module. You can view them both here:

We have a lot of products that might need to be bought together, but are separate skus. Navigating to all the different products via cross sells can be a pain with the existing interface. So we came up a frequently bought together interface for the product page. This works great for cross selling products that are normally bought together, like a printer, printer paper and extra ink. In our case, a lot of equipment is like this. We decided to forgo any upsell functionality and use the upsells for a frequently bought together module. We kept cross sells so we can still show "you may be interested in" products. All product data comes from the individual product itself, not a choice or modifier. When you add all the products to the cart, they are individually added as well. Although we have not implemented it on every product, the few products we tested it with has worked out great.

One of the modules we missed from 2004 was having checkboxes for accessories. In BV5, you can have modifiers. One of the issues we ran in is the ability to have existing products as accessories. Price changes and name changes for a modifier became a big pain. We opted to have a module created that selects from existing products rather than creating a modifier. It feels and looks like a modifier, but all product data comes from the product itself. You can select the accessory, add it to the cart and it is added as a new item. We are still testing whether or not to have the price updated when you select an accessory. Again, there has been little deployment on the site but the feedback has been positive.
