Anyone ever try to set up BV Commerce on Windows Azure? I have a client on a dedicated server and we want to move it to the cloud. Saves $$$

Great question! This is something that I've wondered about and have yet to investigate. Depending on the level of interest and the complexity this may be something that we implement in a future version.

Firstly your could move it to Azure, but as far as I am aware Azure is not PCI DSS 2.0 Level 1 compliant see link below

https://www.windowsazure...trust-center/compliance/

AWS and Rackspace have both achieved PCI Level 1 compliance so it is not impossible but Microsoft have not yet managed it. I am sure is more a matter of time as the cloud operators are competing on features and price.

With the above in mind I would wait until Azure is PCI DSS 2.0 level 1 before migrating.

However if the customers store holds no credit card data then you maybe able to migrate to Azure. If all transactions are processed on the 3rd party PCI compatible payment gateway (e.g. sage pay's token system) then you could argue the BV store itself out of scope and the network adherence is a none issue due to the credit card data not coming into contact with Azure.

I am testing a site right now on Windows Azure. Everything is working OK, except for some reason some images in a specific folder are not displaying. When I try to view the file it redirects me to Error.aspx?type=product. Is there a way to view the error instead of the redirect? I know the images files are there, I can see them via the ftp client.

It sounds like you are experiencing this problem. At the bottom of the thread I link to our free toolkit which includes a fix.

That was my issue thanks! Weird I didn't have to do the fix on our old server but same code to Windows Azure, then I had to do it.

It depends how you have your app pool configured. I believe this only occurs in IIS 7 when running in Integrated Mode.

A mater of interest how are you planning on the PCI compliance part? Or have you decided to use a token payment method and source the PCI risk?

The application manages the PCI compliance. The database is on a SQL VM. Am I missing something else?

I am assuming you have seen my post further up this topic?

Whilst the application does indeed handle the software aspects of PCI compliance such as regularly changing passwords and encrypting cardholder information etc. You are still storing the data on a server within the azure cloud. Therefore the network infrastructure and database are still in scope in regards to a PCI compliant audit.

If your really want to use a cloud host provider then I would strongly recommend using a token payment system (3rd party gateway). Other vendors like Shopify and magneto mange the cloud approval by provisioning pre-built instances in the cloud which are PCI approved. This is very expensive to start with but with the more customers you managed to attract to the platform the lower the costs per instance.
