Love the new responsive version. Seems there was a feature in previous version, which has changed in the current release. There may be a admin option to enable the feature, but I haven't found it.
While reviewing cart items, there should be two links for each specific cart item. One link placed on the item description/sku should direct customers to the catalog product itself. The other link, placed on the product selection/attribute line should direct customers to item in the cart, so selections can be edited.
I believe previous versions had this necessary customer experience feature. It allows the customers to easily edit selection criteria for items currently in the shopping cart, or to easily locate the same item in the catalog, so it can be added to the cart with different selection criteria, without first having to search through the catalog to find the same item. Recently review items does almost the same thing, but it not as effective as having two links in the cart display.
Is this feature available?

John,
I think you misunderstand how this works. Yes, there is only one link in the new responsive theme, but in prior versions the two links went to the same place, at least out-of-the-box. Meaning, the one link in the responsive theme is sufficient as it takes you back to the product page and allows you to edit any selected options and save the changes. |

OK. It could have been a modification I put in place for a previous version. The functionality is all about user friendliness. Often my users will purchase the same product for many recipients. Each item typically has different selection/attribute criteria. For instance, they order a monogrammed shirt in size large with a monogram of Aaron and another in size medium with a monogram of John. After adding the product for Aaron, the current way the cart works, requires the customer to access the catalog and search for the same shirt and add it to the cart with the John's criteria.
Rather than having the customer search again (potentially selecting the wrong item), an easier method is to have a product link displayed in the cart summary. The ability to edit the current selection for a given item is an absolute necessity (more important the making it easy to locate the same item), but the additional functionality convenience of having a quick link to the same catalog product greatly improves the customer experience.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think that it's intuitive that clicking a product name would behave differently than clicking the option text. It's just not obvious what, if anything, would be different about those links. I think there are two ways to handle your scenario: - Add a 'clone' or 'copy' button that would go to the product page
- Change the current text link to go to the product page (without editing) and then add an 'edit options' link to the line item

Aaron, I like your suggestion about using a Clone type button to link back to the catalog product, and possibly an Edit button to link back to the specific cart item for editing. Doing so would add instruction and meaning to the shopper's click.

Or maybe even have the Product description link back to the catalog product, and simply have an "Edit" link or button near the attribute line. I think it would make for a more intuitive shopper experience.
is this something that can be put in as an option? If not, I can attempt the modification. But doing so makes upgrades much more difficult and it also means I'm paying for a product license while I'm poking around trying to get it right.
Thanks again for the great product and superior support.

If you're not customizing the software you're missing out on one of the single best aspects of BV Commerce. Also, it's much easier to isolate customizations with the new theme architecture in BVC 2015. |
