Some other ecommerce sites denote when a product is new, on sale, and/or coming soon. I think this would be a fantastic thing to be able to display to customers viewing products from both category pages and individual product pages.

BV Commerce can already flag products as 'new'. A 'sale' flag is something that we're working on for a future version.

A 'coming soon' flag could be useful, but there would need to be a way to denote that. Inventory won't work. Perhaps it would need to be a new product status. Another option is to be able to set an 'available on/after' date.

Awesome! How do we go about doing this?

I don't see the need to have inventory on for a 'coming soon' product, unless there was a want for pre-orders to be taken. Currently, for any items that are coming soon that we want to take pre-orders for, we are creating a 'pre-order' version of that product, which we will disable when we launch the new product.

What's the purpose of the temporary product?

It acts as our pre-order version, which has special pricing and limited quantities available for each variation. Is there a better approach that would still meet all of our needs?

In the admin go to Options >> Site Settings >> Category. The first setting on the page says "Flag products as 'new'". Check the box and set the number of days after creation products should be flagged. Assuming that your theme is setup with the 'new' flag you should be good to go.

Why can't you use one product for this and then just update the pricing and inventory levels?

I suppose we could. Would reduce the amount of work of cloning it and changing the SKU. Thanks.
