Chris, a website address would help.
Request timed out sounds like it won't connect to your db.

With all the BV Stores out there does nobody care that customers can not checkout? We are doing 4-5 Hundred orders a day now and this is really costing us a lot of money. Does anyone have any ideas? I looked at other stores on the internet that use Real Time UPS rates and they are working.
This started at 4:45pm today. |
Thanks,

It's working now for me. So it looks like UPS has resolved whatever on their end. It did throw a 3-hour crimp in our day though.

Why would BV5 not work but BV2004 not have the problem. Can this be put at the top of the list for a fix from BV ? Thanks |

BV Commerce 2004 and BV Commerce 5 use the same transaction system to communicate with UPS. If a BVC 2004 store was working and a BV COmmerce 5 store was not it could be that the UPS servers were intermittent. We had lots of people contact us today and some said that non-BV Software application were also having problems reaching the UPS servers. As far as we know the issue is 100% on the UPS side and is not related to BV Commerce specifically.

One thing you can do is use Andy's shipper provider add-on and set a backup method for when you can't get carrier rates. I haven't done that for my site -- I use FedEx and USPS -- but that may not be a bad idea. I wonder if you have two carriers and one is down, would it still timout or give you only the one carrier that is working? |

UPS services were down yesterday afternoon. We started taking calls minutes after it started.
For merchants who use real time rates from ANY provider (they all go down here and there) should also have an off-line "value based" or "weight based" table method defined. When things like this happen it is as easy as turning off your provider in the admin and selecting your other off-line method. Orders can still come in.
For anyone doing any volume, get Andy's shipper tool and you can have the fail-over configured automatically. |
