USPS Server been down -- erratic -- now for about 48 hours. I thought it was back up tonight, did some testing, it was returning rates, seemed okay. Well, then I got an order which contained a mixed shipment (some items from our store and one from a drop-ship vendor) -- apparently the store got rates from Priority Mail for ONLY the items from here and ignored the drop ship. So an order that should have been $17.38 for shipping charges charged the customer only $6.87 -- I had to email her and tell her I had to charge the extra. But I had to turn USPS off again. There are folks on various forums screaming, they only use USPS for shipping and they are losing money big time 3 weeks before Christmas. And seemingly no word from the good old postal service.

I'm not sure when I can trust them again to turn it on, but it's a lesson not to only have one shipper!

I'm wondering if someone can comment on this -- since the shippingapis.com servers aren't responding correctly, what if I set my drop-ship vendors to the same zip code as our store here? Would that make the return of correct rates more reliable? Or would it simply be the number of calls -- i.e, it's returning a rate on the items from one vendor (our store), but then failing on the second attempt (for another vendor)?

Just trying to make things work to some extent!

Yeah -- I got an email from the Postal Service this morning apologizing and telling me to go to Endicia or Stamps.com -- doesn't do you any good for getting rates from their API, though.

Endicia is having issue's with retrieving USPS tracking numbers. It times out the transaction
after a waiting period. It then advises you to retry later.

Rudy,

You can actually set Endicia to use their own server for getting tracking numbers -- that has helped me in at least printing postage.

Joe,
We have Endicia set to "Obtain tracking numbers directly from USPS"
As of 9am est today the issue through Endicia seems to have cleared up.
Hopefully it will stay that way.

I don' t know if I trust it -- still getting a Timeout when you ping their servers.

But you can set Endicia to obtain numbers from their servers. I have it set that way as I have had problems for months with the USPS servers.
