Giving customers store credit can be a pain -- as it requires creating and giving them a Promotiona code and hoping they use it right. It would be really cool if you could assign a credit to a customer account so that it is automatic the next time they log in. |

You'd need to make it possible for them to elect to use on the next visit, or save it for a later time... and still carry a credit if it isn't all exhausted at the first use. Perhaps a radio button would be available when the shopper is recognized and they have a balance?
Isn't this a lot like a gift certificate? |

Yes, but I want to make it automatic -- and them not have a choice -- use it or lose it -- I don't need something else to keep track of, have to program, or hog up the database. |

Could you 'overpay' on the Order > Payment tab? What happens now if you tell the store that a customer has overpaid his bill? |

Sure -- if you make corrections/changes/deletions to the order, it will be marked as "Overpaid" -- shows up as a Red mark in the Admin lights -- but that doesn't carry over in any way to the customer's account. |
