Guys,

Can someone please provide a guide about how to integrate and configure my BVC5 to use PayPal Website Payments Standards?

I've never used it before and I don't understand what I need to configure/setup to get it working.

:smhair:

Thanks,

Corneliu.

I will have documentation on setting this up tomorrow morning.

Corneliu, if you need this today, I can forward you a scaled down version of how to set it up. It's a very quick and easy process.

Can you please send that to me or post it here? I would like to also see how to configure things like return url and payment confirmations returned from PayPal.
Thanks,
Corneliu.

Nick -- there is no mention in the instructions for PayPal Express for setting up the IPN, which I had turned off and then set properly, per another post, but I'm not sure it made any difference.

Hi, I believe Luke is asking about Website Payments Standard which I do not think is currently supported out of the box with Bvc5.

So there are THREE different PayPal types? I thought "Standard" was the same as "Express" as opposed to "Pro"

There are 8:

IPN (still around)

Website Payments Standard

Express Checkout

Website Payments Pro (US) which requires that you also implement Express Checkout.

Website Payments Pro (UK) which requires that you also implement Express Checkout.

Payflow Link

Payflow Pro
* PayPal Mobile Checkout

The US and UK versions of Website Payments Pro have similar, but incompatible API's, so they count as separate solutions (even on PayPal's web site).

BVC2004 implements #1. BVC5 implements #3 and #4.

Okay -- so what is the difference between 1, 2, and 3, and which one am I supposed to have enabled? Now I'm confused. I have set up per the instructions in the manual, but continued to have issues, and then another message on the forums from, I think, Nick, gave the IPN that needed to be set for the PayPal Express or Standard.

I want customers to go to our checkout page and if they want to use PayPal -- whether that is paypal account, draft from their checking, credit card, or Paypal buyer credit -- I'm assuming that is "PayPal Payments Standard" -- what I was used to with SF6. Where did "Express" come from?

The difference between 1, 2, and 3 is that they all use different API's and they are implemented differently. The implementor (BV Software in your case) has chosen to implement 3 and 4. Prior to 6.8, SF used 1 (IPN). Starting with 6.8, SF uses 3 and 4. SF never used Standard.

In BVC5, you can choose between: a) no PayPal methods, b) Express only, or c) Pro (which includes Express). Nick posted links to pages that show how to setup Express and Pro.

Express is a new payment method that was released at the same time as Pro. Like Standard, Express performs the entire checkout on PayPal's web site. However, that is the only similarity. They have different API's and they are implemented differently. But that is a moot point since none of the carts we are talking about have ever implemented Standard.

Hi Joe,

I would have to review the Express API again, however, I believe IPN is still partially used in the Express checkout process for AFTER authorization notifications. I think the only one of those that actually applies is if you allow customers to use an e-check. Everything else including paypal instant transfer/buyer credit has an immediate approval with the express checkout api. The transaction is either accepted or rejected. The same is technically true with e-check except that on top of being notified that your customer's transaction was completed, you want to be "notified" when the payment clears, hence the instant payment "notification". Original the IPN was used for all levels of integration to notify you that any type of payment was received. With Express checkout and the fully integrated checkout process, that is basically obsolete.

Actually my pending orders were not getting sent back to the store when they cleared UNTIL I set the IPN -- so the IPN with Express is required to have those orders marked paid at the store.
