I've read over many posts, some from here, and can't find a way to stop the Web Browser from printing the top and bottom header & footer of the printed page, which goes like this:
Code:
Print Order (page name) Page 1 of 2

WEB PAGE / INVOICE CONTENT

http://bvstore.infinetdev.com/BVAdmin/Orders/PrintOrder.aspx?id=9644137b-4b4a-4141-... 8/15/2008

That just does not look professional on invoices designed for customers. Surely someone using BV has come up with a solution, and I'd love to hear it.

Thanks guys & gals,

Hey D-ROD, it's ironic because I spent a few hours digging around for this situation yesterday..LOL..

I tried all sorts of CSS tricks to no avail. I think there are some javascript solutions out there but they're not 100% supported.

In all of my reading, it was always stated that it comes down to the personal settings of the users machine.

I just designed a custom packing slip print template for my client yesterday and they mentioned that they print all of their packing slips from one printer and one printer only. I had them adjust the print properties for this printer to not print the header and footer and they're in working order.

Give this a shot if you'd like. I'll keep digging myself for a solution that could be controlled by myself, but I doubt there is a solid solution!

If you print HTML with a browser, you are pretty much stuck with the header and footer unless you have access to the browser settings. I don't think you do from javascript, but I haven't looked in a couple of years.

You can manually turn them off by selecting File > Page Setup in either Internet Explorer or FireFox.

I use an embedded IE browser to print reports and forms in Shipper 1.4 and programatically turn off the headers and footers (using VB running outside of the browser, not javascript within the page).

Shipper 3.0 includes a real report writer with its own printing (it does not use an embedded browser) so you can produce pixel perfect reports and forms with or without headers and footers. You can also create and email PDF files of any report or form.

I've seen this type of function on some sites, can't recall where. Marcus had asked me a long time ago about some of the things I'd like to see in future versions and I mentioned that I would love total control of the "Print This Page" button on product pages in that I could design a PDF Template with placeholders and the system would auto create a PDF when the button is clicked.

This way we could format the page exactly the way we'd want it:

1. Custom Logo, Contact Information, Home Page URL & Page Title in the header.

2. Exact positioning of Large Image

3. Exact Positioning of Pricing, remove choice dropdowns, position volume pricing (if used), etc..

4. Remove anything we don't want on there.

5. Exact Postioning of product description

6. Footer would include the usual and more importantly give me the ability to add "Prices Subject To Change Without Notice" to the print out.

A drawback is the dependency of the user having Adobe Acrobat on their machine but I'm willing to bet that it's become a standard application on many machines or the system could load the PDF within a new browser window that is running acrobat on the server. (not sure if I'm correct that this is even possible... I thought I saw something like this on asp.net.)

Or the print out page is a dynamic file (Print Template via the dashboard) with place holders that renders a simple HTML page for the user to print. This doesn't do anything to solve the Header & Footer elements being printed though... LOL...

As Andy said, it's easy to turn them off in your browser.

Unfortunately, turning the header & footer off in the browser is not an enterprise viable solution, but works for small business.

Matt, thanks for your insightful replies. Andy, Shipper sounds like it might be our next choice if the client wishes to pursue it.

You guys are great, thank you so much.
